Bed and Breakfast

Bed and Breakfast + Gite

Our farm is a joyous place....well we would think that! Awake to the sound of birds chattering busily in the beautiful trees that surround us. An early morning dip in the pool will put you in the mood for a day of exploring or relaxing....

There are 5 comfortable rooms, located over two floors. They are simple and cosy all with private shower rooms, Egyptian cotton sheets and tea and coffee making facilities in each room.

We have a huge communal salle/dining room which is great for relaxing and meeting other guests.  The grand fireplace makes for a beautiful fire in the winter months where guests can snuggle up with a good glass of wine. From the salle there is access to our terrace and pool which in the summer is a lovely peaceful place to relax and enjoy the peace of the surrounding countryside.

We offer tables d'hotes and where possible we try to use local seasonal produce. We either grow our own stuff or go to a local farm that have a super selection of fruit and vegetables. Local goats cheese from a neighbouring farm and of course plenty of excellent Burgundy wines to enjoy. Meals can be enjoyed on the terrace in the summer months or around a big communal table inside.

You can see more about our Tables d'hotes here: http://www.fonsegre.com/tables-dhotes

Our room prices include a Continental breakfast: yoghurts, bread, pastries, fruits, ham, cheeses and homemade jams.

There is plenty of secure parking space. We offer free WiFi.

Check-in is available from 16h and we ask that rooms are vacated by 10am.

Fonsegre has two types of rooms. Our larger first floor rooms have a King Size bed (180cm) OR Twin beds. It is also possible to put extra beds in these rooms so if you are travelling with family they are ideal and we use proper single beds not a 'clic clac' system. There is a supplement of 20€ for each additional bed which includes your breakfast. Maximum of 2 extra beds.

Our standard rooms are located on the second floor and we have a double or twin room available. They are slightly smaller and located in the eaves. All have private bathrooms and tea and coffee making facilities in each room.

There is a library area on the first floor which is a good place to catch up on emails and a bit of light reading!

Unfortunately at this time as all our rooms are accessed by a flight of stairs we are unable to accommodate people with reduced mobility. We do have a gite however La Cahcette which is all ground floor. Details here: http://www.fonsegre.com/accommodation/lacachettegite

For larger groups of up to 15 people the whole place can be rented s a whole. Please ask for details.

Local Area

The Nievre region of Burgundy is a wonderful green region, gentle and a little bit different. We are spoilt with the fine wines of Sancerre and Pouilly Fume, and the beautiful natural countryside between the river Loire and Allier. Pretty towns such as Apremont sur Allier http://www.apremont-sur-allier.com/en/ make for delightful days exploring.

A little further a field lies the great Parc du Morvan with its ancient fortified hill fort, http://www.bibracte.fr/ a fascinating place and well worth the effort of a visit.

The town of Nevers itself nestling on the banks of the Loire and steeped in its ancient history dates back to the time of Julius Ceasar who used is as an important depot along the Loire. https://www.nevers.fr/ Nowadays it is a centre of pilgrimage for those visiting the tomb of Saint Bernadette who spent her life in a nunnery in the town. http://www.sainte-bernadette-soubirous-nevers.com/en/

During the summer months Nevers hosts a great selection of music and art festivals and it becomes a bustling centre with much to attract including a summer beach on the banks f the Loire where you can enjoy a refreshing swim!

For us though our most famous and nearest point of interest however is the Circuit de Magny Cours. http://www.circuitmagnycours.com/en/  just 6 kms from Fonsegre. It is still a busy and active track drawing crowds from all over Europe and we love getting caught up in the excitement. There are bike events (World Super Bike) Classic Car days, Formula 1 Classique, all sorts of things to enjoy. Oh, and we have plenty of secure parking for competitors arriving with their cars on trailers.

The atmosphere and sound really is fabulous and not to be missed.

Our neighbour produces super goats cheese https://www.facebook.com/chevrerie.chevenon/

We keep chickens so eggs for breakfast are as fresh as can be! We also have fresh figs and peaches in our garden and as we settle in to this fabulous place we plan to plant our own veggies and get them on the table!
